Kofi Annan Foundation and One Young World: Countering Violent Extremism

The Kofi Annan Foundation and One Young World are searching for 10 young leaders who have taken action countering violent extremism.

Jointly powered by the Kofi Annan Foundation, the European Commission and One Young World, the initiative aims to empower young people to prevent and counter extremism through peer-to-peer engagement and learning.

The programme will give 10 young people the opportunity to raise awareness and widen the impact of their work on an international level.

The Kofi Annan Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organisation pushing for political intervention in overcoming threats to peace, development and human rights.

They want to work with young people globally to highlight their experiences in dealing with the dangers posed by religious, political or ideological extremism.

“All too often, young people are the victims and perpetrators of violence driven by extremist beliefs”, Kofi Annan said.

“Yet, they are also on the front lines in responding to this threat; the courageous actions of young people across the globe needs to be highlighted, and widely shared”.

EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, said: “Recent incidents have shown the clear need for decisive action to counter violent extremism.”

Deadline for applying is 18th February – Check here for the criteria.
