The newly launched Community Accelerator program will see Facebook invest up to $3 million – over £2 million – in the leaders of online communities making an impact in the world.

Part of Facebook’s Community Leadership program, which invests in people building communities globally, the six-month initiative will train, mentor and fund 80 communities to drive change around the world.

The Community Accelerator will select communities led by young people, age 18 and above, from these countries: the UK, United States, Brazil, Australia, France, Germany, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Philippines, Indonesia, Egypt and Thailand.

Applicants will receive three-month support from experts and coaches to create a plan to scale up their community and spend a further three months putting the plan to work.

The accelerator program will be funded through GlobalGiving – a global nonprofit crowdfunding platform, which connects donors with social entrepreneurs.

Facebook says: “Building community is at the heart of Facebook’s mission, and supporting the leaders who foster community is an important part of this. That’s why we continue to invest in and support the community leaders who offer encouragement, bring people together and drive change.”

Deadline for applications is 10th April 2020.
